CYPHER HYDRATE

The Sodium to Potassium Electrolyte Ratio

Let’s cover why this ratio is important, what the optimal ratio is for most people, and why CYPHER Hydrate was formulated with this optimal ratio.

Why This Ratio is Important:

  1. Cardiovascular Health: Research suggests that a lower sodium-to-potassium ratio is linked to lower blood pressure and reduced risk of heart disease. Potassium helps counterbalance the effects of sodium, which can otherwise raise blood pressure
  2. Fluid Balance: Sodium and potassium work together to regulate fluid levels in the body. While sodium retains water, potassium helps to expel it, preventing the body from holding too much water and maintaining a proper balance

The Optimal Electrolyte Ratio

The bottom line is that there is no “correct” ratio for everyone, because everyone's individual nutrition needs are different. With that said, let’s jump into why the 1 to 3 sodium to potassium ratio is considered optimal for most people. Some studies even suggest that a higher ratio of 1 to 5 (sodium to potassium) is optimal.

The 1:3 Sodium to Potassium ratio in CYPHER Hydrate

CYPHER Hydrate contains 150mg of sodium and 450mg of potassium for a sodium to potassium ratio of 1 to 3. Here’s why…

We consume too much sodium and not enough Potassium

“Currently, about 90% of Americans consume excess sodium and virtually everyone consumes inadequate potassium.”

And 78% of Canadian adults had sodium intakes in excess of the Upper Limit of 2,300mg per day.

Whereas Potassium intakes of Canadians age 19 and older, both male and female, were below the Adequate Intake of 4,700mg per day.

So in summary, the average Canadian and American is consuming too much sodium and not enough Potassium. For example, if your electrolyte drink mix contains 1,000mg of sodium, and the upper limit in Canada is 2,300mg per day, you’ve just consumed 44% of your maximum sodium intake for the day. Plus, sodium is hidden in a variety of food sources.

Now, there are nuances to this, and certain individuals may actually need more sodium in their diets. Like individuals on a super strict diet and extreme endurance athletes. There are other situations where you might want higher sodium, such as when you’re suffering from severe fluid loss due to sickness or illness.

In conclusion, the average person, and even health-conscious or athletic individuals watching their diet do not need high amounts of sodium in their electrolyte drink mix.

And that is why we’ve formulated CYPHER Hydrate with a 1 to 3, sodium to potassium ratio.

So who is CYPHER Hydrate formulated for?

Who it’s for

  • Anyone who is physically active and doing 1-3 hours of physical activity at a time, and wants to enhance their athletic performance and results
  • Anyone who is looking to cut back on caffeine and wants a caffeine-free energy boost during the day
  • Anyone who is looking to cut back on sugar and wants a delicious sugar-free way to drink more water during the day
  • Anyone with mild symptoms of dehydration
  • Both men and women

Who it’s not for

  • Anyone with severe symptoms of dehydration
  • Anyone with severe fluid loss due to sickness or illness
  • Extreme endurance athletes
  • Not recommended for those under 14 years old or pregnant or breastfeeding women

Extreme endurance athletes and people experiencing extreme symptoms of dehydration will want to look for an electrolyte drink mix that is specifically designed for these niche use cases. Although CYPHER Hydrate will help, these cases may require a higher amount of sodium to get hydration levels back to a healthy level. But for the majority of people a 1 to 3, sodium to potassium ratio is optimal.
